I worked in retail for 24 years, managing stores. When I decided retail wasn’t for me, I had a connection who worked here at Casella and he told me that there was an opening. Five years ago, I thought, maybe I would just go in and see what it is all about, and the rest is history.
I think people underestimate the amount of continuous learning that happens in this industry. I have never stopped. My position has evolved as I have been here and that is something I not only embraced but began to strive for. I had a background in operations and as I started to immerse myself in that side of our business, I found that was where our division needed support, so I stepped in to play a part.
Being a person that others look to for support is what drives me. I have helped train people at multiple nearby divisions, and I love being able to answer questions, guide the team, and see the successes that come out of it. I received that support when I came on and I want to provide that for others. Working with people across divisions, getting to meet them, and collaborating alongside them is easily my favorite part of my job.
It is so cool to see people recognize Casella and even recognize our team from our community involvement. We take part in road cleanups, Trunk-or-Treat events, community block parties with the local recreation center, and sponsorships for charity, and that is just to name a few. I participate in all these that I can, and I know our team does even more than this individually. To be able to walk out in the community and say we did this is amazing. People have begun to see us not only as a service provider but as a true community partner, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.
Outside of work, I make time to spend with my family. My boyfriend has teenagers so lots of basketball games, theater events, and outdoor activities. This area is great because it is beautiful in the summer, so we really just stay busy in the winter. We are all local, so I enjoy finding more ways to go to community events and stay involved in my personal time.
