Driver Joe Adamcik discovered his calling in the industry by making an impact in his Kunkletown, PA community. With growth at the forefront of Adamcik’s career goals, he exemplifies the rewarding value of dedication and compassion for others.
I have been in the industry for five years now. After high school, I went to a vocational-technical school, but then COVID hit, and I didn’t get to fully pursue what I wanted to. I applied to various places and landed at another large industry employer. There, I fell in love with trash. At Casella, my goal has always been to get my CDL. I started by getting my permit last summer, wanting to take the next step, and after attending the Casella CDL School in Rutland, VT, I am now a CDL-certified driver.
I love it here because it feels like everyone cares for one another. Everyone treats you with respect, and you genuinely feel like you are a part of something bigger. I can come in every day and go home happy and satisfied with the work that I do, with the support of the people around me.
Great leadership and teamwork, as well as paying attention to safety and experiencing something new every day. Even when I am on the same route, I meet a new person, or I will see a kid and make them smile or show them the truck. There are also many instances where we have brought meals to veterans or helped our community in other ways. These are things that make each day different and continue to leave me feeling like I am making a difference.
This job is so important because we are taking care of our community. When you take care of your customers, they take care of you. That is something I learned early on from coworkers, and it is so true. My favorite part of this process is just making people happy. In the summertime, when kids are home from school, parents will tell me that their child was so excited waiting for me to come by. I have elderly or disabled customers that I know, and I will help move their cans for them if they need it, just trying to help however I can.
I want to continue to drive trucks and stay in this business. It is what I love. I would like to keep growing, learning how to drive front-load or roll-off and container delivery. I want to know all aspects of the trade to make myself a better and more skilled member of the team.
