Route to Success: Supervisor Jeff Bromley

Jeff Bromley - Willimantic, CT

With a constant can-do attitude and knack for problem-solving, Jeff Bromley quickly advanced his career at Casella. Beginning as a driver in 2016, Bromley used his vast experience to promote safety and efficiency as a dispatcher before his recent promotion to Route Supervisor in Sprague, CT. Whether coordinating the morning rush or optimizing driver routes, Bromley’s ability to keep his community’s needs front and center remains steadfast as he transitions into his new role.

What has your career path at Casella looked like?

My journey started in 2016 as a front-load driver at the Willimantic, CT division. I picked it up rapidly and became a trainer. Over the years, I trained multiple drivers who are still at Casella to this day. Last year, I was promoted to Dispatcher and took on the challenge as the lead trailer dispatcher. I was responsible for all the drivers’ movements in and out of the yard first thing in the morning. As of a few weeks ago, I was promoted to Route Supervisor for the Sprague, CT location. I am looking forward to the challenge of a new position as I train a replacement for my current.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy the camaraderie I have formed with the people in the building and the drivers alike. The drivers trust me to make the right decisions as well as my operations team and fellow dispatchers. It also made me happy when I was a mentor to train people and give them a career. Many of the people I trained are still with us, and this is important for me because that means I did a good job and trained them well.

How do you use your experience as a driver in your current role?

I use my experience as a driver daily. I can see where the drivers are coming from, and they trust me because of my experience. The drivers know that our work is important for the community and my experience helps me to schedule all the drivers in the most effective way to provide that service.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

The most challenging part of my job is communicating with so many different people and resolving equipment breaking down. I try to organize all of this in the best way possible every day. It’s always a challenge to stay one step ahead of potential problems.

What role do you play in keeping drivers safe and efficient?

We constantly talk to the drivers about safety and are always one call away if they need us. We also replay drivers’ routes to optimize performance and talk to them about improvements we can make regarding their routes. This process is meticulous, but it is important for us to make our service as smooth as possible, as safe as possible, and effective as possible. The goal is to have the safest environment, from the mechanics to the people on the road.
