The Casella Hanover, Pennsylvania Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) team is committed to sustaining local resources through partnership with Food Dignity, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the gap between farm fresh food and those who need it most.
This year, the team donated $5,000 and volunteered their time to support the organization's farm stand program.
Our most recent collaboration directly funded accessibility to produce for over 200 households. Hanover, PA team members additionally assisted program operations, including setting up stands, unloading trucks, distributing produce, and cleaning up after events.
“It is vital that we are involved in our communities as it fosters a great sense of support between Casella and the people we serve,” said Casella Market Area Manager Al Gulitus. “Working with Food Dignity has such a large impact, and it is powerful to see families leaving with bags of fresh fruits and vegetables, while simultaneously supporting local farmers.”
Food Dignity's farm stand model allows community members to access fresh, locally grown produce without the financial burden. Sourcing produce from local farmers, the organization works to address the stigma and societal roots of food inequity.
