From intern to content connoisseur, Alex Hutchins’ journey is only just beginning. Awarded the 2024 Women’s Council Scholarship, Hutchins’ enthusiasm for learning and passion for storytelling shines through as she continues to embrace new challenges and opportunities, while advancing her career in the industry.
I began at Casella as an intern. I was a Marketing student looking for experience as I finished my last few years of college. My internship at Casella provided me with an abundance of opportunities that I would not have otherwise experienced, and it became apparent that I would try to stay here if given the chance. Since graduating, I now serve as the Marketing Coordinator out of Casella's Home Office in Rutland, Vermont.
In my role, I work with teams across our footprint to create and promote content that supports the impactful work they do. Whether it is posting on social media, implementing digital marketing strategies, sharing through internal communications platforms, or shining a light on initiatives and accomplishments through storytelling, I thrive on building relationships that promote individual and organizational success.
I was drawn to this field because of the combination of creativity and strategy that it fosters. Content creation and storytelling touch all stakeholders in an organization. Witnessing the appreciation that members of our teams experience when their stories are published internally and externally inspires me to push the envelope every day. Seeing this impact on our employees and audiences is rewarding, to say the least. Every day is different, and it’s exciting to be a part of it.
My favorite part of my job is the opportunity to visit different locations within our footprint and tell the stories of our people. Each person I meet has a unique background, perspective, and set of experiences that deserve to be celebrated. I feel so lucky to be in a position where I can do this, and my passion has only grown since making this my career. I must also mention the amazing team that I work with daily. Their efforts to ensure the most rewarding and educational internship provided me with the most supportive foundation to establish myself professionally.
I constantly find myself wanting to know or learn more in any environment. I want to understand how things work and equip myself with any knowledge I may need to grow as an individual. This drives my commitment to continuous growth both personally and within the industry as I strive to not only grow myself, but to contribute to the betterment of others daily.
To receive the NWRA Women’s Council Scholarship means so much to me. It reinforces the support system that this industry and the women involved have provided me every step of the way. This scholarship helps me to continue my education to pursue my MBA and does so in a way that further strengthens my passion for continuing to contribute meaningfully to the industry.
