Kelly O’Connell Receives Young Biosolids Champion Award

Kelly O'Connell MABA Award

Kelly O’Connell, Springfield, VT Compliance Specialist and valued member of the Casella Organics team, was recently honored with the Young Biosolids Champion Award from the Mid-Atlantic Biosolids Association (MABA). This award recognizes an individual under 40 years old who has demonstrated exceptional ingenuity, commitment, and leadership within MABA and the broader industry.

O'Connell has made significant contributions as an active member of the MABA PFAS Focus Group, where she has played a vital role by assisting the Committee Chair and lending her expertise to key initiatives, working to advance the industry while enriching the Casella community. Her dedication continues to extend further as she will soon moderate an upcoming MABA webinar focused on biosolids incineration.

“Kelly is professional, enthusiastic, and a quick study. Her volunteerism at MABA and other organizations is a great example of her leadership and illustrates her passion concerning recycling and environmental stewardship," said Environmental Manager Jeff McBurnie. "Participation in volunteer trade organizations, like MABA, not only advances our industry but also enriches our company and its employees. Kelly’s commitment to these efforts exemplifies the values we hold at Casella.”

Beyond her work with MABA, O'Connell is also actively involved with the North East Biosolids and Residuals Association's (NEBRA) Green House Gas Reduction Committee. As part of the “BEAM team,” she contributes her expertise in utilizing the Biosolids Environmental Assessment Model (BEAM) to measure GHG reductions achieved through biosolids recycling.
