When Lindsey Menard joined Casella in 2020, she stepped into the world of environmental compliance with curiosity, determination, and a desire to make a tangible impact. She now serves as an environmental compliance manager supporting facilities across Vermont and New Hampshire, helping teams navigate regulations, respond to challenges, and keep operations running safely and responsibly. Her work on the Permits, Compliance & Engineering (PC&E) team places her at the intersection of environmental stewardship and day‑to‑day operations, where no two days are the same.
I joined Casella right out of college in 2020 as an environmental analyst on the PC&E team. About a year ago, I transitioned into my current role as an environmental compliance manager. My work has expanded from environmental reporting for Vermont and New Hampshire facilities to project management, budgeting, and more hands‑on field work. The growth has been incredibly rewarding, and I’ve learned so much from the people around me.
PC&E manages the entire permitting lifecycle for our facilities, new permits, amendments, renewals, everything. We also help ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. That includes stormwater management, spill reporting and cleanup, employee training, annual inspections, and so much more. Every piece of that work helps protect the environment, maintain compliance, and build trust with regulators and the communities we serve.
Casella has a strong legislative and regulatory affairs team that monitors changes across our footprint. They work closely with PC&E to interpret new rules, respond to proposals, and submit comments when needed. Our team acts as a bridge between operations and regulators, helping facilities stay aligned with permit requirements. Staying curious and learning about emerging issues helps us stay proactive rather than reactive.
Our job is to support the people who keep our facilities running. I’m grateful to work with such strong teams in Vermont and New Hampshire, and I always feel welcome when I visit a site. We want people to feel comfortable calling us when something comes up, or asking our favorite question: “Do I need a permit for this?” And yes, the answer is almost always yes.
Taking on a more active role with the NCES Landfill and the large-scale project management that comes with it has been very challenging, but incredibly rewarding. I am fortunate to have a strong network of peers and mentors supporting me. Luckily, I work with a really wonderful team, and the environment that Casella provides has made it possible to grow and build my professional skills.
I’ve always been passionate about environmental stewardship, but the biggest motivator is the people. I’m surrounded by colleagues who care deeply about doing the right thing. Every community we serve trusts us to manage their waste responsibly and protect their environment. That’s a responsibility I take seriously, and I’m proud to be part of a team working to maintain and strengthen that trust every day.
