Capturing Opportunity: Turning Landfill Gas into Clean Energy in Chemung, NY

Chemung RNG Facility

A long-standing partnership between Casella and Chemung County is helping transform landfill gas into renewable natural gas (RNG), creating a valuable energy resource while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Through collaboration with Waga Energy, the project captures gas generated through the natural decomposition of waste and converts it into lower-carbon energy that can be delivered to the local gas grid. The facility supports New York State’s energy and climate goals while demonstrating how strategic partnerships can advance environmental stewardship, operational excellence, and long-term community benefits.
