Wayne Crockett: Shaping Success Through Experience

Wayne Crocket

For 30 years, Wayne Crockett has been a steadfast pillar of Casella’s Rutland, VT operations, demonstrating excellence across multiple roles. Currently serving as the Operations Supervisor at the Rutland Material Recovery Facility, he plays a vital role in ensuring efficient daily operations while advancing the company’s mission to maximize recycling, reduce waste, and educate the community on sustainable practices to drive meaningful impact.

What inspired you to build your career at Casella?

I love working with my hands and making something tangible, which is what brought me to Casella. Since then, Casella has given me many opportunities to learn, grow, and advance. The company was willing to pay for my education and has treated me with respect and appreciation. Throughout the years, I've had the chance to work with and for so many different people, which has made my experience even more rewarding.

How has your journey shaped your professional growth and led to new opportunities?

I got my start at Casella as a diesel mechanic. Over the years, I’ve taken on various roles, including welder, dispatcher, and operations. I later became an operations supervisor working at our West Rutland, VT hauling division, and eventually transitioned to the recycling facility where I am now.

What has been the most fulfilling aspect of your time at Casella?

I've been with the company for 30 years, and throughout that time, the family atmosphere has been the most rewarding part of my experience. The sense of community is what has kept me here and made my time here worthwhile.

How does your role at the MRF drive meaningful change and contribute to sustainability?

The work we do at the MRF is incredibly important because we want to preserve the limited landfill capacity that is available. We want to be able to reuse as many of those items as possible, which is the mission of our operations. Recycling cuts down on natural resources, creating a lasting, sustainable impact, and the sorting systems we use at the MRF help to make our recycling quick, effective, and efficient. It feels good to know our work is contributing to a much larger cause.

How do you maintain your drive and commitment after three decades with the company?

My parents instilled in me a great work ethic as a child. We had chores to do growing up that helped us to survive as a family. Everyone worked together to put food on the table, get wood for heat, and take care of the home. I believe that is what has kept me motivated each day.
