Service Star: Mechanics Supervisor Ramon Garcia

Charlestown MRF Master Technician Roman Garcia

Hailing from the Dominican Republic, Ramon Garcia began his career at Casella in 1996 as a Class C Mechanic. He quickly became the go-to person for on-site machine repairs, with a vibrant desire to learn all aspects of facility operation and maintenance. After putting in the hard work and dedication to advance his career, Ramon now holds the position of Mechanics Supervisor at Casella’s Charlestown, MA Material Recycling Facility, in addition to mentoring new talent for his team.

How did you get your start in the waste and recycling industry?

I needed a job and a friend of mine who worked at the facility at that time told me Casella was hiring, so that’s how I got here 27 years ago. I’ve enjoyed learning about the recycling and waste industry, I didn’t know much about it at the time.

What do you do in your current role?

As a mechanic, along with the rest of the team, we fix the system when it breaks down and perform regular preventative maintenance to best serve our customers and the community.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The Boston team, from management to frontline employees. My supervisor, Dominic Mantica, has been a great mentor to me. I’ve learned a lot from him, and I really respect him.

What professional accomplishments are you most proud of?

As an employee, I was the first to complete the Master MRF Tech Career Path at the facility. I was also able to take and pass the Massachusetts Hoisting Licensure.

What is next for you in your career?

I am fulfilled, at the moment. I plan to continue working as hard as I have until I retire from Casella, which will be an accomplishment working for a wonderful company.

Outside of work, what are a few of your favorite hobbies?

I enjoy dancing, traveling, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends.
