The Vermont House of Representatives recently honored Casella for its exemplary contributions to the state over the past 50 years. Lawmakers, alongside business and community leaders, celebrated the company's remarkable journey, from a single pickup truck operation in Rutland to a national leader in waste management, sustainability, and community stewardship. The tribute recognized not only the vision and dedication of John and Doug Casella, but also the profound impact Casella has had on Vermont’s economy and environment.
To mark this milestone, state representatives passed a House concurrent resolution applauding Casella’s five decades of service, acknowledging its role in pioneering recycling programs and advancing environmental sustainability. Governor Phil Scott joined the proceedings, commending Casella for its commitment to Vermont and the waste management industry. He highlighted the company’s evolution, from its early innovations in recycling to its adoption of electric fleet vehicle technology, and underscored its ongoing contributions to local communities through philanthropy, education, and workforce development.
“Fifty years ago, Casella began with a single truck and a vision and has now grown to employ hundreds right here in Vermont,” said Governor Phil Scott. “I want to congratulate the entire Casella Waste Systems team, and the Casella family, on five decades of business – and to thank them for all they’ve done to improve our state.”
The resolution was sponsored by a broad coalition of lawmakers from across the state, reflecting the widespread appreciation for Casella’s enduring leadership and unwavering commitment to sustainability and innovation for decades to come.
