Banfield Named to 40 Under 40

Erin Banfield

Casella’s Erin Banfield was recently named one of Waste360’s 2023 40 Under 40. The distinction recognizes inspiring and innovative professionals under the age of 40 whose work in waste, recycling, and organics has made significant contributions to the industry.

Banfield began her career in waste and recycling at a young age, following in the footsteps of family members dating back generations. In 2015, she joined the Casella team as a territory sales representative in Salem, New Hampshire, where she gained valuable, hands-on experience and insight into the company’s multifaceted business approach. Following her success in field sales, she transitioned to the Business Development team, tasked with growing municipal business segments. Her work ethic and commitment to service allowed her to successfully implement new strategies with major industrial partners and enhance sustainability services for customers company-wide.

Banfield now serves as the Director of Municipal Services, where she leads, builds, and executes against strategy for one of the largest customer segments in the company, municipalities, across all operating entities. In this role, she works with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure business retention, growth, and innovation in this area.

“Erin has played an essential leading role in advancing our municipal strategy and line of business,” said Paul Ligon, Senior Vice President of Sustainable Growth. “Her work has not only resulted in sustainable profitable revenue growth, but also the creation of foundational management and state-of-the-art customer-focused systems that we are replicating across other core customer segments.”

In an announcement of this year’s honorees, Waste360’s Liz Bothwell, Head of Content and Marketing and Waste360 NothingWasted! Podcast Host, acknowledged the significant work of the talented 2023 recipient pool who represent all parts of the waste and recycling industry, including haulers, municipalities, composters, recycling professionals, policymakers, and product suppliers.

“Congratulations to the 2023 class of Waste360 40 Under 40 award winners. Our industry is filled with tremendous innovation and talent,” said Bothwell. “We were very impressed with all of the submissions and we are excited to celebrate the outstanding achievements of the winners at WasteExpo.”
